Grappling. Physical chess.
Focused on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is the "mixed martial arts" of grappling. Grappling also includes Judo, Sambo, Aikido and Wrestling. Each of those have various restrictions of what you can NOT do but BJJ allows everything as a complete Grappling art.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi and No-Gi) and Wrestling — one hour at a time. This is where almost every adult at Rumble starts, including the ones who show up nervous, unfit, and sure they'll be the worst person on the mat. They aren't. Everyone in this room remembers their own first class.
Tiny Ninjas (4–7): Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling and Judo in one — no striking at this age. Youth & Tween BJJ (8–15): a full hour of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for kids and tweens ready to go beyond Tiny Ninjas. Technique first, discipline always.
A women-only room for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and practical self-defence, for any ladies who would prefer to work and roll with other ladies. It's a great room to start in to build comfort and skills, and then everyone's welcome in the co-ed classes — but it's not required.
Advanced BJJ90-minute classes
Combat Athlete Program (CAP)
The track beyond Combat Core that goes beyond the core skills everyone should know to defeat the average Joe, where you'll learn how to defeat other trained fighters. Gi and No-Gi, longer classes, more advanced techniques and skills, a harder pace, longer live rounds — and to go deeper down the rabbit hole.
Striking is about hitting. Grappling is about hands-on control — and if you can control someone, you can hit them if you want to. You could also make them sit there and listen to you read a book 😄. Grappling is what you're watching in the UFC any time they put hands on each other.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling martial art that teaches you to control and submit opponents using leverage, joint locks, and chokes. The first Champion of the UFC that completely changed the Martial Arts world back in 1993 was Royce Gracie who represented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in No Holds-Barred Fights. Royce was the lightest person in the tournament (up to 5 fights in one night vs better and better opponents), no rounds, no time limits, no weight classes, and the only rules were no biting and no eye-gouging - because both of those are gross and it'd be nice to compete and have eyes after 😂. It is proven as the most effective self-defence system for real situations and where the smaller person CAN actually defeat a larger opponent - just like the movies.
Professor Jones and Royce in Brazil
BJJ is also the best self-defence there is. If you're worried about your safety and you have the space to throw a punch, use that space to run. The one thing that stops you running is someone with their hands on you — and that's grappling.
BJJ originated from Japanese Judo and was refined in Brazil by the Gracie family, who proved its effectiveness in no-holds-barred fights against larger opponents for over half a century (nearly 70 years) before the first UFC. At Rumble, we teach both Gi (traditional kimono) and No-Gi (rash guard) BJJ so you're complete whether you're training for self-defence, MMA or Grappling competitions.
Beyond being the best self-defence and a must-know for MMA, it's just fun to learn and play with a good team. You get in shape without noticing, and you walk out with a skill worth having.
Looking for Muay Thai, Boxing or Kickboxing instead? That's our separate Striking program — a different room, a different skill set although we DO have MMA classes and competitors it's invite only after people learn the basics of Striking and Grappling first. We also have Battle Girl Bootcamp, our women’s-only fitness Kickboxing program.
Shorts or leggings, a rash guard or a shirt you wouldn't mind getting stretched, or just athletic clothes, is enough for a trial. No Gi required to start — and we have loaner gear for your first sessions if you need it.
02How a class runs
Every class starts with a warm-up. Then the coach teaches a technique or skill to work through, and we usually finish with live scenarios — a chance to use what you just learned, or anything from previous classes.
03Technique beats size and strength
Grappling is leverage, not muscle. Coaches teach to the newest person on the mats, and the whole team puts the team first — which makes it a welcoming, helpful and genuinely fun room to be part of.

Questions
Do I need experience to start grappling?
No. Most students in our beginner classes have never rolled before. Coaches teach to the newest person on the mats, every class.
Do I need a Gi?
Not for a trial. Athletic clothes or a rash guard work fine, and we have loaner gear for your first sessions. If you stick with the Gi side of BJJ, we'll point you to one when you're ready.
Am I going to get hurt?
Grappling is controlled — technique and drilling first, live rolling later and only when you choose it. Coaches manage intensity so beginners aren't matched against people who'll overwhelm them.
What's the difference between Gi and No-Gi?
Gi BJJ is trained in the traditional jacket and pants, using grips on the fabric. No-Gi is grappled in rash guards and shorts, closer to Wrestling and submission grappling. We teach both.

“Professor Jones is a great teacher and has turned me into a better person and fighter. I am small in stature and the size of the person doesn’t matter in Jiu-Jitsu — I have already won a silver medal.”
— Aiden K.
“I’m not exactly the biggest guy at the gym, so starting out was a bit intimidating. I had nothing to worry about.”
