Why women's-only BJJ

Coach Gladys and Professor Jones celebrating her World Master gold medal.
Celebrating after a World Master medal

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the self-defence art of getting out from under someone bigger than you — escapes, control, submissions. No striking, no strength contest, just leverage and technique.

This class is its own program, separate from every other class we run — a women-only room, at your own pace, with no one to impress. If you've never rolled before, this is exactly where to start.

Taught by Coach Gladys

Holding a World Master medal high

She started BJJ in her late 50s.

She competed locally for years. She was always bumped up to the adult division, against opponents who were much younger, more athletic, and often heavier than her.

She still won gold. In Gi and No-Gi. 🥇

Questions

Do I need experience?

No. Most women who walk in have never trained before. Coach Gladys starts everyone from the same place.

Do I need to be fit first?

No — you get fit here. BJJ is a full-body workout on its own; nobody's turned away for their fitness level.

What do I wear?

Comfortable athletic clothes. No shoes on the mats — socks are fine.
